Zmijanje embroidery is a traditional hand-embroidery technique of the people from the Zmijanje region near Banja Luka, known for its dark blue motifs.
Women traditionally used it to decorate women’s clothing and household textiles, including wedding dresses, scarves, dresses, and bedding. Throughout history, embroidery was practiced collectively by groups of women, accompanied by song and conversation, while the knowledge and skills were passed passed on from older women to younger girls.
