Illustration Etnos and Eros

In this series of paintings, Kemil primarily explores the relationship between the old-fashioned, in the pejorative sense of tradition, and the contemporary. From the perspective of today's knowledge and opinions, within the historical context often shrouded in taboos (mainly medieval Bosnia and Herzegovina), contemporary elements are implemented as commentary. By blending classic, traditional, and local with modern, synthetic, and global artistic materials and techniques, he investigates an alternative visual semantics and lexicon of traditional depictions and content. This series delves into Bosnian-Herzegovinian folklore, focusing on the portrayal of women and the themes of provocation and eroticism. Symbols such as Bosnian carpets, traditional costumes, and tombstones frequently appear, used to censor the naked body, thus allegorically representing the state of that historical period in the country.
