Arifa Šabanović, a talented weaver from Srebrenica and winner of the award for the best kilim in the former Yugoslavia, once owned a collection of forty large kilims – all of which were taken from her during the Aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina. At that time, she promised herself she would never weave again. Thirty years later, she created her first post-war kilim, adorned with hearts – her symbol of everlasting love and the strength expressed through her art.
The graphic design on the cover of this notebook reflects the appearance of Arifa’s kilim. With this edition, Bazerdžan seeks to preserve the memory of
Arifa’s work and the message of love that transcends all. Part of the proceeds from sales goes to support Arifa and her family.
